Georgia Bulldogs v. Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread

Arkansas Razorbacks at Georgia Bulldogs, Feb 8, 2012 8:00 PM EST

Well, here we go again. Mark Fox's Georgia Bulldogs will be hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks in Stegeman Coliseum at 8:00 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network. Should you be so inclined, you may track (though not watch) the game here.

The Hogs are an enigmatic team, having in the last two and a half weeks beaten the Michigan Wolverines and the Vanderbilt Commodores while losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers. Arkansas, which is still looking for its first win of the season on an opponent's home court, travels to Athens hoping to unleash "40 minutes of Hell," in honor of the roundball strategy, biography, and documentary of the same name, all of which are discussed in a recent podcast at Arkansas Expats, SB Nation's Razorbacks weblog and, I believe, the only blog in the network with "sex" in the URL.

If you can stomach another evening of Georgia men's basketball---and, honestly, at this point, no one would fault you if you couldn't---please join in the conversation in the comments below.

Go 'Dawgs!

not confident. We have to limit turnovers. And of course, get lucky enough to score 70+.

How many times have we broken 70 this year?

Not being snarky either. I’m legitimately curious.

Three:

South Dakota State (72), Mercer (72), and Winthrop (92).

So, um, yeah.

We pwned Winthrop

Worth exactly $1.
Unrelated, but . . .

. . . Georgia golfer Bryden Macpherson has withdrawn from school, albeit for a good reason. As the winner of the 2011 British Amateur Championship, he has been extended an invitation to the Masters, for which he plans to prepare rather than engaging in intercollegiate competition this year.

as long as I see a G on his hat

he has my blessing (as it turns out, he doesn’t need my blessing.)

Offensive pace tonight is totally new.

Loving it and it’s working really well.

We should keep doing this.

Agreed.

An Arkansas run is inevitable. Let’s see if we’re able to handle it when it comes.

Dang it, I'm just going to say it:

I think we have a shot at scoring 50 tonight.

Not on TV for me down here in Cubaville.

And ESPN3 is so maddening (I wish their video quality would just default to low-res “craptacular” instead of hi-res “always frozen”), I’ve given up.

If someone is able…could you post a score every now and again. Thanks.

I'll try, but I really suck at score updates.
That's okay...

tell you what…just post a score once Arky takes the lead. Otherwise, I’ll just assume we’re bound for glory tonight.

Up 41-19 currently.

Not joking.

2:18 left in the 1st half.

Let me pick myself up off the floor

and then I’ll try to respond.

Yeah, it's pretty unreal.

They’re still jacking up too many treys and committing too many fouls, but the Bulldogs are rebounding well and driving to the dadgum basket. Georgia leads, 43-24, with 1:14 to play in the half.

And we lead 43-24

At the half.

Connor came in and played terribly.

And all of our decent post players have 2 fouls. And Djurisic still misses easy lay ups and commits dumb fouls.

But everyone else is killing it.

I guess we'll find out

if this team can handle prosperity. Something tells me this game won’t be a 20 point victory…

You're right.

The Arkansas run will happen; arguably, it started during the final few minutes of the first half. How will the Hoop Hounds handle it when it comes? That’s the question. Georgia can put this game away for a solid victory, but Georgia can still lose this game, as well. The first eight or ten minutes of the second half will tell the tale. If the Bulldogs don’t put the stake through the Razorbacks’ heart early, foul trouble could make the last ten minutes pretty dicey. (We have four guys with two fouls apiece.)

Checking in from Durango....Dogs are up?...must be the Drake Bulldogs

..OK I’m trying to temper my cynicism in 2012…hard, so hard

We've got our lead

Now all that’s left is the patented ten minute scoring drought.

Dude.

This is like that one game every year (or two) where everything falls perfectly into place and we beat a longtime rival by 38 points, isn’t it?

It very well may be.

Up 51-30 now

16:35 left.

Arkansas went on a bit of a run, . . .

. . . but the Bulldogs survived, and they kept doing what’s been working.

We’re not out of the woods yet, but, if the lead is still hovering around 20 points at the ten-minute mark, the fact that so many guys are in foul trouble probably won’t come back to haunt us.

Keep those fingers crossed, Bulldog Nation. . . .

We've reached the point in the game where we get called for anything and everything.

Up big = really touchy about fouls.

Down big = “go ahead and frisk the other team”

Hey, Dave

55-30 now.

14:22 left.

Looks like I picked the right week

to start sniffing glue…thanks!

Just tried ESPN3 again...

it’s hopeless.

we look comically, terribly bad against the press.

and we clearly don’t care as much.

Up 60-41 after being up by 27 just a little while ago.

this is a could comment
how much time left on the clock?
6:51 left

70-47 dawgs.

Back to back 3’s by the Count of Montenegro.

Thanks for the updates...

I’d like nothing more than to play spoilers down the stretch this season.

Go Dawgs!

1:27 left.

79-59

We’re emptying the bench, so it may end up looking closer. But man.

Great game.

I never thought this team could win by 20 against any club
81-59

Go. Dawgs.

Dawgs win!

If you were a hotdog, would you eat yourself?

For the record, . . .

. . . the instantaneous, ill-informed, and ecstatic roundball wrapup has been posted on the front page. I almost entitled it “40 Minutes of Heaven,” but I decided to put that on the site header, instead.
