Wednesday Morning Dawg Bites: Where Do Broken Hearts Go? Edition

Good morning, lovelies.

Are you hungover from Valentine's day? I don't mean by alcohol, although that's totally possible and was the case for me one year, but I don't talk about it because we just don't bring up the past like that and oh look what's that over there? *runs away*.

I mean just in general. Maybe you're bummed because you're one of the few people who really, truly dig Valentine's Day, all the way from morning until night. Maybe your plan for romantic excellence flopped. Maybe you found out your significant other was a tweaker, only looking for their next score and was robbing you blind on dates when you would excuse yourself to go to the bathroom. It's not common, but it's entirely possible and could ruin your day if true.

So with all that in mind, I'm here for you, those with hearts that are broken. I'm providing link excellence for you in hopes that it's the first step toward recovery. Do the jump and see what we have in store for you today...

Star-divide

Moving on is important in any relationship if you know you've gotten the most out of where you've been and there's no room to grow. With that in mind, we wish all the best to former UGA RB and S&C Assistant Coach Thomas Brown, who accepted a job to become the running backs coach at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He truly is a DGD, so it's good to see him furthering his career in coaching.

Improvement is also the name of the game when you're looking to rebound after a terrible Valentine's Day. With that in mind, The Good Senator Blutarsky has a post that gives a little info on what teams can statistically look forward to with the amount of returning starters they have going into next year. Let's just put it this way, if Derek Dooley doesn't make a bowl next year, he's packing his orange pants for an extended vacation.

Another way to get over your bad Valentine's Day is to remember that the grass isn't always greener. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope agrees that making the leap isn't always a good thing, since he's decided he's definitely staying in college for another year. Hopefully his presence pays off in recruiting because we REALLY need it.

Exotic locations are also a great way to move on. The Lady Golf Dawgs took a trip down to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Classic and finished in second. How anyone can win anything in an exotic location is beyond me. There's a reason Hawaii bowl games are always terrible.

If you really want to shake the hangover from Valentine's Day, you have to move forward with a goal in mind. If football is that goal, Dawgs247 has you covered with a Countdown to G-Day Clock up and running. I'll be honest, I was surprised that it's already that close.

They say those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat it, and so we're hopping in the way-back machine to this post yesterday by EDSBS. The Coach Boom one was my favorite, I must say.

Finally, we have two treats for you to finish out your Valentine's Day hangover. The first thing is to do what Boyd Crowder does and remember your ABC's.

The second is to remember what Puddle of Mudd says (it's SFW...unless "loud" isn't SFW) and to just be OK with that.

Until next time kids.

Be safe.

Dawgs are 4.5 point underdogs to the Cocks tonight

not much of a betting man, but I like us to win outright. Let’s make it 3 in a row boys!

Awesome news for Thomas Brown

One of my favorite Dawgs for a variety of reasons.

Now I can dig my UTC Mocs hat out of my box of college stuff and have a reason to wear it.

His game against Auburn in 07 (the Blackout)...

was one of my favorite memories of him, but his performance against Georgia Tech two weeks later is my fondest, by far. His run around the edge where Brannan Southerland obliterates a defensive back and Brown goes in to score untouched is a thing of beauty.

One of my pet peeves is when I see people listed as UGA alumni that aren’t. I’m using the least strict definition of alumni, those that attended a class (or even worked on campus). When it comes to claiming alumni, our fanbase is like Bama claiming national titles. So as a public service announcement, the following people are not alumni in the most liberal use of the word (starting with the most frequently incorrectly cited one)

Kim Basinger
Evander Holyfield
Jeff Daniels
Samuel L. Jacskson
Jason Aldean
Jerry Reed
Most of the B-52s
Drive by Truckers
Jimmy Carter
Ty Cobb
Jeff Foxworthy
Walton Goggins
Ray McKinnon

I’ve seen all of these people listed on Wikipedia before. Most are gone, but some persist. Some are big fans (Holyfield, Aldean), some are related to alumni (Jackson), many are simply from, or have lived in, Athens (Basinger, DBT) and may not care about UGA at all, some are simply from the state (Goggins, Jerry Reed), and some actually are fans of Tech (Foxworthy). There’s nothing wrong with fans who aren’t alumni, but lets call them boosters or supporters. Those I can live with anyway. Its the people with no connection, like Basinger, that bother me.

not that you're claiming Goggins is

the picture just awoke the dragon in me.

I was curious for a second...

But I’m really glad you got that off your chest.

It's interesting someone would think Jimmy Carter - being that he is a Navy man.

And I think people think Jeff Foxworth is Lewis Grizzard or something.

Nice Rant.

Carter attending and graduating from Annapolis doesn't stop Techies from claiming him because he took like one math class there prior to attending the Naval Academy
I agree.

Please note that Basinger, while not an alumna in any sense, is a documented supporter of UGA athletics: “In 1991, the [Dan Magill Tennis Complex] received lights thanks to the generous support of Oscar-winning actress and Athens native, Kim Basinger.”

I did not know that
I reckon you never had one of my campus tours, then.
Now, that, I would like to do.

As a resident assistant and a Phi Kappan and a 4th gen dawg, I know maybe more than some, but a NCT tour would be really interesting.

Thanks for the G-Day reference.

I didn’t even realize the date had been set, so now I can go ahead and request to be off from work.

Hopefully, you can join us for the game, MidnightFrost1701!

We may try to coordinate another day-long sports safari in the Classic City, as we did last year.

Safari?

As in, you wander the city gawking at the drunken frat boys and sorostitutes? What fun!

I went to the game with a friend last year, but she’s since moved to South Carolina. So I don’t know that she’ll be able to attend this year. If she can’t, then my choices will be limited to watching from home or going on “safari.” The latter sounds more appealing at this point.

We'll keep you posted.

Honestly, I haven’t looked at the day’s schedule yet, but, last year, we managed to work in the G-Day game in Sanford Stadium, a tennis match at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, and a baseball game at Foley Field. A good time was had by all.

Oh, THAT kind of safari.

That works too. : )
