JUCO WR Cordarrelle Patterson going to Tennessee: Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss other SEC offers
John Theus’ LOI first one to hit the Butts-Mehre Fax today
leedawg - February 1, 2012
Love that the big guy (who we obviously are gonna need in an even bigger way) was the first LOI in the house

DavetheDawg - February 1, 2012 via mobile
I don't see why ANY recruit would go to Tennessee (or Auburn) right now.
Maybe it’s because I’m a 25 y/o college grade and not a 17 or 18 y/o athlete. Nor am I a 20 y/o JUCO guy either.
I also think I’d want to be on the best team. If I were Patterson, I would’ve picked UGA or LSU. Tennessee is a trainwreck.
But then again… There’s no real logic to where people decide to go to college for sports. (Remember Evan Nolte picking Virginia for basketball? What?)
DocSkraynj - February 1, 2012 via mobile
as a JUCO guy, my only guess is he wanted immediate playing time
you would think he would have gotten that at LSU as well, what with the state of their WR’s
leedawg - February 1, 2012
At least it makes more sense than the WR from Adel who committed to Georgia Tech on Monday.
vineyarddawg - February 1, 2012
Very very excited
Not about National Signing Day…. ESPNU has decided to grace us with “Faces of Sports: Tim Tebow” for the hour before their NSD coverage. I can’t wait. I was just thinking the other day, “You know who I haven’t heard about in awhile? Tim Tebow”. Glad I’ll be able to see what’s going on with him.
RedCrake - February 1, 2012
nice
tankertoad - February 1, 2012
How do you like that?
I figured I had time to run out to Chick-fil-A to grab breakfast, and the news about Cordarrelle broke while I was in line. (Ours is a very popular Chick-fil-A.)
As if it wasn’t bad enough that I had to learn how to spell “Cordarrelle,” I also had to figure out which time zone Kansas was in (fun fact: Kansas has four counties in the west that are on mountain time!) so I could figure out when his news conference was, then he goes and jumps the gun!
T Kyle King - February 1, 2012
"Ours is a very popular Chick-fil-A"
aren’t they all? Is toad already in line at the one under construction out in Kansas?
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
Dude, the Hampton Chick Fil A is out of control. They could build a Chick Fil A next door to the Chick Fil A and stil do alright.
tankertoad - February 1, 2012
Oh, and I drove by ours yesterday, they are getting the brickwork up.
tankertoad - February 1, 2012
Well, if you get a craving before they finish
the offer still stands. Standard hourly rates apply.

Anyone read this bit of insanity about JaQuay Williams yesterday?

I don't think we'll get Williams
But if he does end up a Barner, at least he sent the jackwagons at the AJC on a wild goose chase.
RedCrake - February 1, 2012
If he goes to Auburn, he may not be there for 4 years
43 percent of Auburn’s 2009 and 2010 signees are no longer on the team, or never joined the program in the first place

we could use 1 or two more on top of our commitments
I’m still baffled that we have no ILB’s and only 1 DB as of now, when we could have to fill all 6 of those spots next year on the D

Avery Young is after lunch I see.

Redmond’s LOI is not yet in, at least according to GeorgiaDogs.com.

hailtogeorgia - February 1, 2012

tankertoad - February 1, 2012
To show you how stupid recruiting rankings are
JHC signing moved Georgia from #19 to #11 at Rivals.
He’s gonna be good but he’s just one guy.
RedCrake - February 1, 2012
Rivals and Scout class rankings are purely volume driven
ESPN and 247 try to look at how well needs were filled and the average quality of each player. You get rewarded on Rivals and Scouts for having 30 signees.
AuditDawg - February 1, 2012
And by the NCAA!
RedCrake - February 1, 2012
So Bama has been #1 every year since Saban has been there?
save the year Houston Nutt signed 37 at Ole Miss
leedawg - February 1, 2012
Alabama has been #1 since the dawn of man.
Oh, wait, you’re talking about recruiting class rankings. Carry on, then.
Jman781 - February 1, 2012

leedawg - February 1, 2012

/REC
kleph - February 1, 2012
I hope I'm not the only one who heard Arnold Schwarzenegger when reading that
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
Agreed...
the star system and rankings have gotten ridiculous. They are fun for discussion, and give a little insight on physical tools and to some extent, expectations, but aren’t what a lot of fans try to make them out to be [insert Bama 2009 signing day national champs joke]. In that regard, I put a little tidbit about Tim Jennings on S&G a bit ago. Long story short, he was the one kid I had no clue about on his signing day, as a very under the radar kid. Asked Rodney Garner about him so I could have a little info, and somewhat-direct quote (caveat of being a decade ago memory, so paraphrasing but pretty close), “if he were a few inches taller, he’d have been treated like Champ Bailey”.
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
the biggest problem with these recruiting rankings
is they give no account for a program’s ability to develop players. it’s like trying to project who will be an NFL superstar simply by where they went in the draft. obviously, the better talent you bring in, the better liklihood for success. but the most successful programs tend to have a strong system of developing that talent to a point closer to it’s potential.
and that’s not taking a bunch of three-stars and “coaching ’em up.” it’s an ongoing effort to improve conditioning, develop fundamental skills and help a player fulfill their role in the overall scheme. georgia, i should add, is very good in these respects.
kleph - February 1, 2012
it's also internal factors...
who has their head screwed on straight, is ready to work hard, etc, which goes in to your improvement, development, and willingness to fill a role comments.
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
This year,
our D was amazing, but folded due to depth in the 4th quarter.
Who thinks that’s going to happen again with this class?
opsomath - February 1, 2012
I don't think we folded in the 4th.
On D, I don’t think anybody in this group has a huge impact on next year. I’m really glad we stocked up at DL and OLB, and Dawson looks like a stud at DB. ILB and DB is going to be a priority next year.
first and thom - February 1, 2012
I think the games where it looked like the d "folded"
were actually games where the offense let the defense down until fatigue and motivation became factors.
But it does look like we’ve gained some quality depth and future stars.

Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
Beckham? He's a decent crosser,...
and I guess he could make a good kicker, but he’s a bit old to be signing now, and his going to lose tons of endorsements if the NCAA says anything. Maybe 10 years ago, he still had the quicks to be a solid, Wes Welker-like slot WR, but now? His 5 star reputation is all due to his wife.

Luginbill rates our class fifth in the nation so far.
He says we’re gaining on the Gators, whom he rates fourth.
On a slightly unrelated subject, am I the only one who finds himself inadvertently typing “Josh Harvey-Clemons” as “Josh Harvey-[RIVAL REDACTED]”?
T Kyle King - February 1, 2012
You are too hillneck-focused
We’ve had great Clemons, from Charlie, to Nic, to Chris. We have good success with the Clemons last name.
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
"Hillneck."
Term stolen. I may or may not have married into a Clempson family.
opsomath - February 1, 2012
Glad I could be of assistance...
and I may or may not give my condolences.
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
Who's the biggest recruit left on our list?
Young?
Any surprises so far?
Jman781 - February 1, 2012
To me, the biggest surprise is that anybody, anywhere, could be offered by Georgia and choose not to go here.
/Obviously doesn’t get recruiting
//Is ok with that
vineyarddawg - February 1, 2012
My guess would be Avery Young is the biggest one left...
but as far as surprises go, Dawson has probably been the biggest one so far, simply because he had been committed to Vandy for so long.
Given that we’re still only at around 19 commitments (this is with everyone who’s verbally committed signing), I’d expect a few guys to pick up offers who may not have otherwise been on the board. We’ll see.
hailtogeorgia - February 1, 2012
If we could get Young, plus a surprise ILB and DB, I'd be really happy
leedawg - February 1, 2012
I'm glad the one surprise has been in our favor.
Although, I wasn’t terribly surprised by Dawson’s choice.
Jman781 - February 1, 2012
Young, or...
Monteego Powers.
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
I see what you did there.
And Montego’s little brother Kingston is gonna be a beast for the class of 2014. Already 6’7, 290 and runs the 40 in 4.55. I read it on Rivals so it must be true.
MaconDawg - February 1, 2012

Dawg2011 - February 1, 2012
Rumors are...
UGA’s recruiting strategy consisted of letting each recruit feast on delicious cupcakes. While each recruit was immersed in delectable bliss, the coaches pointed out this will be life at UGA during the football season.
Who doesn’t love cupcakes?
Yum!
Jman781 - February 1, 2012
There are calling this
The “Buttercream Team”
Jman781 - February 1, 2012
I'm looking over my list, . . .
. . . and, if I’m not mistaken, all 16 Georgia commitments have submitted signed letters of intent, except for Marshall Morgan.
Among our ten top targets, three (Harvey-Clemons and both Dawsons) have signed with Georgia, five (Patterson, Tomlinson, Redmond, Green, and Williams) have signed elsewhere, and one (Young) is announcing at 2:00. I think the tenth (Graham Shuler) picked Stanford, but I haven’t seen that officially confirmed.
Does that sound right? Has anyone seen anything official (or at least reputable) about Morgan and/or Shuler?
T Kyle King - February 1, 2012
Seth Emerson says we're at 18, awaiting JHC's LOI and the Avery Young announcement
leedawg - February 1, 2012
There's a very real chance that Morgan has been surfing since 7 a.m. and just got around to sending in his letter.
For those who remember Billy Bennett, I sense that he and young Marshall are sort of kindred spirits.
MaconDawg - February 1, 2012
Ah, crap.
You mean he’s going to be smug, aloof, and just generally a prick?
hailtogeorgia - February 1, 2012
As long as he makes as many FG's as Bennett did...
… I’ll allow it.
vineyarddawg - February 1, 2012
FGs?
Do not want. I hope we waste his FG talent on chip shot extra points. He can show his stuff on kickoffs.
first and thom - February 1, 2012
How about, "As long as he never misses a FG..." then?
vineyarddawg - February 1, 2012
Don't divide by zero or else it will release the AGGGGHHHHH!
first and thom - February 1, 2012
Not always a bad thing:
vineyarddawg - February 1, 2012
If you follow him on twitter Marshall's . . . well . . . he's entertaining. I think Emerson, Weiszer and the guys will like him.
Though for player Twitter accounts my pick is Brandon Burrows. His feed is actually funnier than Will Ferrell’s.
MaconDawg - February 1, 2012
So he'll be a music producer?
Mr. Sanchez - February 1, 2012
So at this point, I would expect the coaching staff to be putting out some feelers...
on some borderline guys…maybe guys who won’t qualify but can be sent to GMC, or guys who have loads of untapped potential. I’d expect they’ll also leave a few spots open for next year’s back counting early enrollees, which tend to be two or three people. My guess is that we finish out at around 21 or 22 and ultimately will have 24 or 25 count towards this class after December.
hailtogeorgia - February 1, 2012
Thanks, leedawg.
I’ve updated the signee list accordingly.
Has anyone seen anything on Shuler? Stanford’s website is no dadgum help.
T Kyle King - February 1, 2012
Finally, Stanford got its "Signing Day Central" page where it was accessible.
Graham Shuler is listed as an official Stanford signee, so the only guy we’re still waiting on is Avery Young, a couple of hours from now. Otherwise, the hay is in the barn, barring an eleventh-hour offer out of left field.
