JUCO WR Cordarrelle Patterson going to Tennessee: Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss other SEC offers

John Theus’ LOI first one to hit the Butts-Mehre Fax today

Love that the big guy (who we obviously are gonna need in an even bigger way) was the first LOI in the house
Bill King radio

Reporting C. Patterson to Tennessee.

I don't see why ANY recruit would go to Tennessee (or Auburn) right now.

Maybe it’s because I’m a 25 y/o college grade and not a 17 or 18 y/o athlete. Nor am I a 20 y/o JUCO guy either.

I also think I’d want to be on the best team. If I were Patterson, I would’ve picked UGA or LSU. Tennessee is a trainwreck.

But then again… There’s no real logic to where people decide to go to college for sports. (Remember Evan Nolte picking Virginia for basketball? What?)

as a JUCO guy, my only guess is he wanted immediate playing time

you would think he would have gotten that at LSU as well, what with the state of their WR’s

At least it makes more sense than the WR from Adel who committed to Georgia Tech on Monday.
Very very excited

Not about National Signing Day…. ESPNU has decided to grace us with “Faces of Sports: Tim Tebow” for the hour before their NSD coverage. I can’t wait. I was just thinking the other day, “You know who I haven’t heard about in awhile? Tim Tebow”. Glad I’ll be able to see what’s going on with him.

How do you like that?

I figured I had time to run out to Chick-fil-A to grab breakfast, and the news about Cordarrelle broke while I was in line. (Ours is a very popular Chick-fil-A.)

As if it wasn’t bad enough that I had to learn how to spell “Cordarrelle,” I also had to figure out which time zone Kansas was in (fun fact: Kansas has four counties in the west that are on mountain time!) so I could figure out when his news conference was, then he goes and jumps the gun!

"Ours is a very popular Chick-fil-A"

aren’t they all? Is toad already in line at the one under construction out in Kansas?

Dude, the Hampton Chick Fil A is out of control. They could build a Chick Fil A next door to the Chick Fil A and stil do alright.
Oh, and I drove by ours yesterday, they are getting the brickwork up.
Well, if you get a craving before they finish

the offer still stands. Standard hourly rates apply.

Punter Collin Barber's letter-of-intent has also arrived
Our long national nightmare is over.

We have a punter.

Anyone read this bit of insanity about JaQuay Williams yesterday?

AJC

I don't think we'll get Williams

But if he does end up a Barner, at least he sent the jackwagons at the AJC on a wild goose chase.

If he goes to Auburn, he may not be there for 4 years

43 percent of Auburn’s 2009 and 2010 signees are no longer on the team, or never joined the program in the first place

But he'll have a sweet car, can't deny that
Gurley in da house!
TWSS.

I sincerely hope Coach T has the wherewithal to welcome him to the weight room by greeting him, “Welcome to Georgia, Gurley-man! I am here to pump you up!”

You forgot the (clap) after "pump" and the (point) at the end.
Waiting for the Tomlinson annoucement live on Good Day Atlanta

This is the worst morning show on TV…except maybe Live with Kelly

It really is awful

I’ve had to mute it

Greg Pike is in.
Gotta sign those lineman
we could use 1 or two more on top of our commitments

I’m still baffled that we have no ILB’s and only 1 DB as of now, when we could have to fill all 6 of those spots next year on the D

Justin Taylor has signed with Kentucky and will not wait to be grey shirted by Bama

Good for him. He made the right call, bc Saban would have screwed him in the end

Tomlinson going to bama
DL Dalvin Tomlinson chooses Bama over UGA and GT

not a big surprise there

But they didn't have room for Taylor
Tomlinson becomes Alabama's 45th signee in the 2012 class.
Is this for real? Cause, its hard to tell sarcasm when it is likely true.
Josh Harvey-Clemons to Georgia!

The whole “I knew when I first got there”…. That’s what I love to hear.

Welcome, Josh Harvey-Clemons.
And he credits Todd Grantham 100% for his decision.

Nice.

I think my favorite of those types of stories is the kid that picked us bc of the food at ECV/Snelling
MaconDawg's report on Josh Harvey-Clemons's selection of Georgia . . .

. . . has just been posted on the front page!

How's that for service?

:)

JaQuay signs with the Barn

Reportedly for less $ than Cam Newton

Not really surprised.

Auburn frequently cheats finishes strong on Signing Day.

AJC was having webcast of Josh Dawson and Kenderius Whitehead press conference

Click play on video player…. “This Video is Private”

Epic Fail from the AJC as usual.

Totally Surprised.
Dawson and Whitehead videos working now...

…but bandwidth issues make videos veeeeeeery choppy…. I’ll just wait for the Twitter updates from Michael Carvell…

Brandon Greene signed with Bama

It was always a long shot.

Tracy Howard rocking a little Kid n Play action
to da U

Will Muschamp weeps tasty tasty tears

Everytime the Gators miss a recruit...

…an angel gets its wings!

Slight edit...

Every time a Gator recruit goes to Miami, an angel gets its blings!

sounds like Tucker is having a rap battle at signing day
What are the times for the others we're waiting on?

Has Will Redmond signed?
Avery Young is after lunch I see.
Any others we’re waiting on?

Seth Emerson just tweeted that we've received 11, with 6 more committed (waiting on 6 more).
Josh Dawson announces at 10:00.

Redmond’s LOI is not yet in, at least according to GeorgiaDogs.com.

Redmond is the kid currently committed to Miss St (if you were mistaken for the other Memphis DB, Sheldon Dawson)

I’d like another CB, be it him or the other kid Jiles.

Josh Dawson choosing between UGA and Vandy here in a few minutes
Please tell me Josh Dawson is an offensive player.

Choosing between UGA and Vanderbilt?

It appears there are multiple threads on Dawg Sports...

Which is one is the place to be?

ALL OF THEM!
Okay

I’ll stay here, since I’ve got to fake like I’m working. It’s easier to stay on one page.

This is the official signing day thread.

We’ll be posting updates on the signee list throughout the day, as well as profiles of any last-minute signees we land, but this is intended to be the main conversation thread. That said, Mr. Sanchez is right; feel free to participate in the conversation everywhere on the site.

this is also the one

in included in the Team Speed Kills index of SB Nation SEC site open threads.

Cool!

Thanks, kleph. I’ve been so focused here, I hadn’t checked Team Speed Kills today.

Joshua Dawson approaching the microphone

Go Dawgs!

Dawson is a Dawg

Suck it Franklin!

Who needs a microphone

Just put on a Red and Black hat!

MaconDawg's profile of new Georgia signee Josh Dawson . . .

. . . has just been published on the front page!

I just don't know how these Georgia bloggers...

are getting these articles up about their signees so soon after they sign. Must be some insider information going on around here. Just goes to show they’re cheatin, PAWWLLL.

To show you how stupid recruiting rankings are

JHC signing moved Georgia from #19 to #11 at Rivals.

He’s gonna be good but he’s just one guy.

Rivals and Scout class rankings are purely volume driven

ESPN and 247 try to look at how well needs were filled and the average quality of each player. You get rewarded on Rivals and Scouts for having 30 signees.

And by the NCAA!
So Bama has been #1 every year since Saban has been there?

save the year Houston Nutt signed 37 at Ole Miss

Alabama has been #1 since the dawn of man.

Oh, wait, you’re talking about recruiting class rankings. Carry on, then.

Rumor has it Bama fans are trying to get their #1 recruiting rankings the past few years

converted into National Championships. “We’ve got 23 National Championships PAAAAWWWWWLLL”

it's not a rumor

/REC

I hope I'm not the only one who heard Arnold Schwarzenegger when reading that

Agreed...

the star system and rankings have gotten ridiculous. They are fun for discussion, and give a little insight on physical tools and to some extent, expectations, but aren’t what a lot of fans try to make them out to be [insert Bama 2009 signing day national champs joke]. In that regard, I put a little tidbit about Tim Jennings on S&G a bit ago. Long story short, he was the one kid I had no clue about on his signing day, as a very under the radar kid. Asked Rodney Garner about him so I could have a little info, and somewhat-direct quote (caveat of being a decade ago memory, so paraphrasing but pretty close), “if he were a few inches taller, he’d have been treated like Champ Bailey”.

the biggest problem with these recruiting rankings

is they give no account for a program’s ability to develop players. it’s like trying to project who will be an NFL superstar simply by where they went in the draft. obviously, the better talent you bring in, the better liklihood for success. but the most successful programs tend to have a strong system of developing that talent to a point closer to it’s potential.

and that’s not taking a bunch of three-stars and “coaching ’em up.” it’s an ongoing effort to improve conditioning, develop fundamental skills and help a player fulfill their role in the overall scheme. georgia, i should add, is very good in these respects.

it's also internal factors...

who has their head screwed on straight, is ready to work hard, etc, which goes in to your improvement, development, and willingness to fill a role comments.

This year,

our D was amazing, but folded due to depth in the 4th quarter.

Who thinks that’s going to happen again with this class?

I don't think we folded in the 4th.

On D, I don’t think anybody in this group has a huge impact on next year. I’m really glad we stocked up at DL and OLB, and Dawson looks like a stud at DB. ILB and DB is going to be a priority next year.

I think the games where it looked like the d "folded"

were actually games where the offense let the defense down until fatigue and motivation became factors.

But it does look like we’ve gained some quality depth and future stars.

You speak wisely patawan.
Dorial Green-Beckham comes to the SEC!

(Ok, it’s Missou. But still.)

We're going to be playing against some great WRs next year.

DGB at Mizzou and Patterson at UT.

Dude.

Arkansas-DGB=MNC

Its the new Petrino Math.

September 8th

Mr. Green-Beckham, meet Mr. Rambo. Welcome to SEC Football.

Is my birthday

we haven’t given me good birthday presents the last few times we played that day (particularly, my 21st).

Beckham? He's a decent crosser,...

and I guess he could make a good kicker, but he’s a bit old to be signing now, and his going to lose tons of endorsements if the NCAA says anything. Maybe 10 years ago, he still had the quicks to be a solid, Wes Welker-like slot WR, but now? His 5 star reputation is all due to his wife.

/waitarewestilltalkingsoccer?

Caught him on the Dan Patrick radio show last week

he said he hit a 65 yard field goal recently

Preferred walk-on?
Definitely.

He’s got the scratch to pay his own way.

We could give him a scholarship

Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had 2 placekickers on scholarship

Don't remind me

from Andy Bailey to the at least we got some use out of him this year of Bogotay.

Luginbill rates our class fifth in the nation so far.

He says we’re gaining on the Gators, whom he rates fourth.

On a slightly unrelated subject, am I the only one who finds himself inadvertently typing “Josh Harvey-Clemons” as “Josh Harvey-[RIVAL REDACTED]”?

You are too hillneck-focused

We’ve had great Clemons, from Charlie, to Nic, to Chris. We have good success with the Clemons last name.

"Hillneck."

Term stolen. I may or may not have married into a Clempson family.

Glad I could be of assistance...

and I may or may not give my condolences.

Who's the biggest recruit left on our list?

Young?

Any surprises so far?

To me, the biggest surprise is that anybody, anywhere, could be offered by Georgia and choose not to go here.

/Obviously doesn’t get recruiting
//Is ok with that

My guess would be Avery Young is the biggest one left...

but as far as surprises go, Dawson has probably been the biggest one so far, simply because he had been committed to Vandy for so long.

Given that we’re still only at around 19 commitments (this is with everyone who’s verbally committed signing), I’d expect a few guys to pick up offers who may not have otherwise been on the board. We’ll see.

If we could get Young, plus a surprise ILB and DB, I'd be really happy
I'm glad the one surprise has been in our favor.

Although, I wasn’t terribly surprised by Dawson’s choice.

Young, or...

Monteego Powers.

I see what you did there.

And Montego’s little brother Kingston is gonna be a beast for the class of 2014. Already 6’7, 290 and runs the 40 in 4.55. I read it on Rivals so it must be true.

UGA #9 on Rivals now
UGA #10 on Scout
Rumors are...

UGA’s recruiting strategy consisted of letting each recruit feast on delicious cupcakes. While each recruit was immersed in delectable bliss, the coaches pointed out this will be life at UGA during the football season.

Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

Yum!

There are calling this

The “Buttercream Team”

I'm looking over my list, . . .

. . . and, if I’m not mistaken, all 16 Georgia commitments have submitted signed letters of intent, except for Marshall Morgan.

Among our ten top targets, three (Harvey-Clemons and both Dawsons) have signed with Georgia, five (Patterson, Tomlinson, Redmond, Green, and Williams) have signed elsewhere, and one (Young) is announcing at 2:00. I think the tenth (Graham Shuler) picked Stanford, but I haven’t seen that officially confirmed.

Does that sound right? Has anyone seen anything official (or at least reputable) about Morgan and/or Shuler?

Seth Emerson says we're at 18, awaiting JHC's LOI and the Avery Young announcement
Kicker Marshall Morgan’s LOI is in for Georgia. That makes 17 officially, with Harvey-Clemons and Dawson set to make it 19.
Sorry, Josh Dawson sent in his LOI earlier too. So it’s 18, with Harvey-Clemons making it 19.
There's a very real chance that Morgan has been surfing since 7 a.m. and just got around to sending in his letter.

For those who remember Billy Bennett, I sense that he and young Marshall are sort of kindred spirits.

Ah, crap.

You mean he’s going to be smug, aloof, and just generally a prick?

As long as he makes as many FG's as Bennett did...

… I’ll allow it.

FGs?

Do not want. I hope we waste his FG talent on chip shot extra points. He can show his stuff on kickoffs.

How about, "As long as he never misses a FG..." then?
Don't divide by zero or else it will release the AGGGGHHHHH!
Not always a bad thing:

If you follow him on twitter Marshall's . . . well . . . he's entertaining. I think Emerson, Weiszer and the guys will like him.

Though for player Twitter accounts my pick is Brandon Burrows. His feed is actually funnier than Will Ferrell’s.

So he'll be a music producer?
So at this point, I would expect the coaching staff to be putting out some feelers...

on some borderline guys…maybe guys who won’t qualify but can be sent to GMC, or guys who have loads of untapped potential. I’d expect they’ll also leave a few spots open for next year’s back counting early enrollees, which tend to be two or three people. My guess is that we finish out at around 21 or 22 and ultimately will have 24 or 25 count towards this class after December.

Thanks, leedawg.

I’ve updated the signee list accordingly.

Has anyone seen anything on Shuler? Stanford’s website is no dadgum help.

Finally, Stanford got its "Signing Day Central" page where it was accessible.

Graham Shuler is listed as an official Stanford signee, so the only guy we’re still waiting on is Avery Young, a couple of hours from now. Otherwise, the hay is in the barn, barring an eleventh-hour offer out of left field.

Which can sometimes be a great thing

Auburn using the $cam Newton Slush Fund signs Avery Young

Ugh...

Really?

We need need o-linemen badly and we only sign three?

Thanks, everyone, for spending National Signing Day with us!

The site recorded more than 9,000 visits and over 20,000 page views in the course of the day, which we greatly appreciate. We are even more thankful for those of you who took part in the conversation.
