Here is a WIDE open thread to talk about anything that crosses your mind. You can start with the Atlanta Falcons, a team in red and black with trouble in the big games and an anemic Offense on the road. Maybe you have a good Sunday recipe; I am cooking some lasagna myself. Or did you order some pizza, or break out the grill? Inspired by your Sunday services? Here you go, rant/vent/discuss/talk away. After the Falcons you have the Pittsburgh Steelers with Hines Ward out running explosions to watch and discuss or maybe you just feel like taking shots at Tim Tebow as a linbacker turned QB for the Denver Broncos and enjoy some sweet Tebow post season tears.
This afternoon at 2:00pm EST the 15th ranked Georgia Bulldogs face the Auburn Tigers in basketball in East Alabama and look to get some payback in the SEC. This game can be viewed live on ESPN 3.
Still not enough for you? Guess what, we still have College Football tonight in the GoDaddy.com Bowl featuring Arkansas State vs Northern Illinois. I don't even know what GoDaddy is except that they have very "enticing" commercials to go to their website.
Feel like doing some reading and not watching or posting? Don't forget Cherokee's Grip Ode to First Downs.
Not entertained enough by this NFL Wildcard and Toilet Bowl Action - I've added a picture for you to go at it in a caption contest. The winner will receive an autographed play book by Coach Bobo. Bring your creative juices to bear with Aaron White's epic TD score.

Mike Bobo calling in the offense for the Falcons.
mbrd71 - January 8, 2012
Nah, it's the Falcon's Defenses' fault the O cant get first downs.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
I feel like I really am watching UGA - it's freaking me out man.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Thanks, tankertoad.
I’d been so focused on yesterday’s sports action that I’d totally forgotten about today’s. Much obliged.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
No problem Kyle. I likely have the dreaded walking pneumonia and not worth much more than a laptop and tv right now anyhow.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
I always thought
Tebow to be more of a tight end.
ChopMaster - January 8, 2012
I can change it to place kicker. geez.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
That . . .
. . . is truly, deeply, thought-provokingly disturbing.
And I mean that as a compliment.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
Yea, it's like some Salvador Dali painting or something. I think I am going to have it framed and wall mounted.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
The beauty of it is that "Beetlejuice" was a Tim Burton movie, . . .
. . . and Christopher Nolan rescued the “Batman” franchise from a string of movies Burton started (which originally starred Michael Keaton).
So it works on many levels.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
Crazy right? I love it.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Speaking of Tim Burton.....
I ran into a guy walking down the street yesterday at lunch time in full Edward Scissorhands costume…very convincing. I did not know what to make of it.
The Quincy Carter of Accountants - January 8, 2012
Maybe it really was Edward Scissorhands?
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
That is possible....
to be honest, it’s just another bit of weirdness in a weird city, it kinda didn’t phase me, that worried me a little :-)
The Quincy Carter of Accountants - January 8, 2012
MAN U vs Arsenal Jan 22 on Fox Sports! And you know, Manchester United Rules.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Can all y'all make it a new year's resolution . . .
. . . to quit talking about European soccer like we’re running some metric commie wienie blog around here? :)
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
I just like to pick on your fellow staff because Man U rules and they are haterz.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Have fun in Europa
/ignores own team not even in European Cup competition

I blame you
for adding all these Eurotrash futbol lovers to the masthead.
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
DS European Vacation? Go see Manchester, Everton, Liverpool, Arseonal?
Be like a cross between a Hangover movie and a Vacation movie.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
That would be awesome.
See, we really need to get more people on this blog to fall in line behind this Liverpool/Everton thing.
Both clubs are ancient (in soccer terms), both have historic stadia that are directly across a park from each other, and both have followers that are known for their extreme loyalty to one club and animosity for the other.
It’s just like our other little rivalry. :-)

vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
Here's a link to the map of Goodison and Anfield, by the way:
Most people don’t realize they really are across a park from each other. Goodison is at the top, and Anfield at the bottom:

Who's a Gunner?
And I guess we’re leaving RedCrake at home, since there’s no White Hart Lane on your list.
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
Arsenal's logo includes a cannon...
… so they’re colloquially called the “Gunners.”
The local accent with which people say that name, however, also causes them to be referred to as the “Gooners.”
vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
Oops, nevermind.
I realize now that you’re asking who is an Arsenal fan, not where the name comes from.
vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
this
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
Dang, I forgot about the Spurs. But that's kinda easy to do.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
bite me
And there’s no “the” :-)
RedCrake - January 8, 2012 via iPhone app
Spoken like a true Spurs fan. :-)
vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
No superfluous "the"?
It’s a fact!
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
I'm really not sure I'm comfortable with letting soccer fans serve in the military.
Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
I’ve been a huge Arsenal fan for over a decade. The team does the things the right way. Not cash hogs like Chelsea and Man. City.
mdhenshaw - January 8, 2012 via Android app
What, no time for a visit to Fratton Park?
(I know, I know. Where?)
I will say that I’d put Portsmouth-Southampton up against any of those other great derbies. They just don’t play that often — so there’s a Georgia parallel there, too.
RJohn - January 8, 2012
Frackin' Park?
Hey, I mean, that’s great and all, but if we’re visiting stadia that house crappy teams on the British coastline, I’m going to insist upon Caledonian Stadium. (More for the town than the match, but that’s why all non-locals go to Scottish soccer matches.)
Besides (taps the sign)…

vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
Don't think I haven't thought about that, Mr. Sanchez! :)
[Insert “Arrested Development” line here.]
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
Awwww...
… no can do, my friend.

I really hope the Mayans are right about 2012. The way this year is starting, the end of the world can’t get here soon enough for me!

Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got some timber sports to get back to.
The Quincy Carter of Accountants - January 8, 2012
As long as we're hosting an all-sports thread, anyway, . . .
. . . I should mention that the Georgia women’s basketball team is up on Auburn, 25-14.
A recap of yesterday’s swim meet and today’s women’s basketball game will follow later today.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
I will add in a line - I missed that one, its on the 3.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
For the caption contest:
Hey! Don’t you walk away from me, Coach Bobo said to look everywhere for the halftime adjustments.
Or:
Hey Coach Meyer, yeah it’s Orson Charles, remember that time when I broke the national championship trophy when you were at Florida and you told me it was a one in a million shot that I could so badly damage a piece of football iconography with my butt? Yeah, better make it two in a million.
Or:
Coach Richt: As I was saying Mike, we need to re-think our whole offensive philosophy not just little details. I think we’re missing the forest through the trees.
The Quincy Carter of Accountants - January 8, 2012
Oh shoot that's Aron White not Orson Charles....
Ok, disregard number two.
If you’re looking for advice on ways to ignore number two, Michigan State can provide guidance.
The Quincy Carter of Accountants - January 8, 2012
Georgia 30, AU 17 at the half. In the meantime, Atlanta is trying to understand why their playbook got switched out with a green notebook.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Whadda mean
Surely the defense can score more than 2 points. Does the offense have to do everything
Dawg2011 - January 8, 2012
Caption
“I know that there are creative offensive plays somewhere in Sanford Stadium”
Dawg2011 - January 8, 2012
So it took the Falcons halfway through the 3rd Q to start dinking and dunking.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
That's still 6.5 quarters
faster than Mike Bobo
Dawg2011 - January 8, 2012
To enhance your Caption Contest pleasure, I offer you this:
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
How about
“Bobo hedges his bets against a NMSt. comeback.”
“It isn’t whether you win or lose; it’s how you play the hedges.”
“Extracting things from a hedge fund can be difficult.”

The keeper barely worked the other time. Bad play call. Giants have won in the trenches all day.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
This would be my annual "first falcons game of the year, oh yea, this is why I dont watch the falcons" game. Game over.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
You should reduce that number from one to zero.
It just saves time.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
The Falcons probably agree with you.

FWIW... Football recruits Keith Marshall and Faton Bauta are now listed as UGA students, according to the school's web site....
Classes begin Monday…

Ed Wilson - January 8, 2012
Yea, Keith Marshall has been on track to enroll all along. Now he can hit the classroom, and the weight room.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Mark Beard is also listed
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
Glad to hear the Falcons hired away Bobo.
Running up the middle against a solid D line? Very familiar with that. Doing it after the dink and dunk worked? Yea, totally surprised.

oldcat70, We appreciate you dropping by but we are skiddish of use of personal name of other non public people.
Sorry, but this isn’t a site to search for folks. I just did some internet searches and was able to get a little bit of data without much effort. I am hiding you comment because while an individual may choose to post their real names, we don’t like other people that are not public figures to be posted for privacy and security reasons. I suggest you dig through some white pages and/or family and friends.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Toad
I understand. Thanks! Was just looking for an old friend from long ago.
oldcat73 - January 8, 2012
I hate Auburn. They are down by 24 and won't let the last 30 seconds of the game end.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Any Georgia fans actually pulling for Tebow, or would be if he wasn't facing a favorite pro Dawg?
GwinnettGamecock - January 8, 2012
I did not realize there was a comedy show
included with this thread…
Dawg2011 - January 8, 2012
I don't know of any, in fact my Broncos fan friends that are UGA folks are even torn about the game.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
I know a few, including a couple of season ticket holders
Quick question on facebook found a couple more openly cheering for Denver today.
GwinnettGamecock - January 8, 2012
The whole Tebow thing is so over blown. I hope he loses just so they can quit talking about it.
mdhenshaw - January 8, 2012 via Android app
Agreed.
For me, it’s less about Tim Tebow than it is about the media adulation of Tim Tebow. As Mr. Sanchez noted below, a Georgia fan conscientiously could root for the Broncos because of Champ Bailey and Knowshon Rockwell Moreno, but any Georgia fan who roots for Tebow as Tebow against Hines Ward ought to have his University of Georgia degree revoked.
The frustrating thing is the way the media hype two rival quarterbacks for opposite reasons. Tim Tebow is great, even though he plays 55 crappy minutes of football while his defense keeps him in it for his five minutes of heroics to matter at the end, because he wins, but Cameron Newton is also great, even though his team loses, because he plays well. Which is it? Pick one, so I only have to hear about one rival quarterback at a time.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
I should add I’m a Panthers fan so pulling for Newton is a work in progress. However he’s much better than u thought he would be.
I don’t think Tebow is a horrible QB. The only reason he’s a story is his religious background. John Fox is an outstanding coach. That’s been lost in all the hype.
mdhenshaw - January 8, 2012 via Android app
I thought…. Not u thought. Phone Swyping issues.
mdhenshaw - January 8, 2012 via Android app
Understood.
Thanks, mdhenshaw.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
You forget, they also have Champ Bailey
as well as the injured reserved Knowshon Moreno.
They’ve also had Dawgs for a long time from Clarence Kay, to Champ, etc.
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
Yea, Champ has had a great career.
I really dont have a dog in the fight either way. More depressing all these bulldogs all over the place with no titles.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
There was a Dawg in every game this weekend
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
That's a rec.
vineyarddawg - January 8, 2012
Good for you, vineyarddawg.
I was looking for a “weep” button to click.
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
A "weep" button
sounds like a great idea. I guess we need a whole bunch of new buttons like the “hell rec” and/or “plaid” buttons.
Cherokee's Grip - January 8, 2012
Hopefully, at least one of those . . .
. . . was a new year’s resolution for the SB Nation technical support crew!
T Kyle King - January 8, 2012
And I've always kind of liked the Broncos, in spite of their awful choice in color scheme
it started with Clarence Kay, but Terrell Davis and Olandis Gary, now Champ. Liking NFL teams with Georgia players on them makes me like most every NFL team.
Mr. Sanchez - January 8, 2012
He needs to shave that full beard.

Dawg2011 - January 8, 2012
This is not the Denver I have watched before.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012
Or the Steelers. This game reminds of the Seahawks win against the Saints last season. It didn’t matter much and they got stomped the next week.
The Steelers are too beat up.
mdhenshaw - January 8, 2012 via Android app
And just like that the steelers come back!
hbtd - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Well great, now we get 4 minute Tebow.
tankertoad - January 8, 2012

take a sack, get a loss or turn it over.

That TD was scored on an out by a TE. Just saying.

Now I know it was a rigged contest
