FanShot

Sad news on a sad day from State College, PA. Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe Paterno, his family, and the entire Penn State family.

The Penn State SB Nation blog is Black Shoe Diaries, and I'm sure they will have regular updates.

(Fair warning, though: If anybody goes to BSD today and trolls them on the recent Sandusky affair, I'm going to personally ban you from this site. This is neither the time nor the place to be discussing that issue.)

UPDATE: Multiple reputable organizations, including BSD themselves, are now reporting that Joe Paterno has passed away at age 85. I have updated the title of this FanShot accordingly.

UPDATE2: The sources I was relying on (including BSD themselves) were reputable, but a Paterno family spokesman has now said the news of his passing was "absolutely not true." I have changed the headline back. I apologize for the confusion.

This is truly sad news

Someone over at Black Shoe Diaries said it was unfair, referring to Coach Paterno’s obvious decline and the greater tragedy of the well-publicized events in State College. Someone else responded:

It will only be unfair if we let the past 2 months define him. I refuse to do that.
I think this statement is just about perfect. Prayers go out to the entire Penn State family.

God Bless Mr. Paterno, for the great service he's done for his family, Penn State, and college football.
My thought, prayers and best wishes to the Paterno family.
The original report

of Joe Paterno’s death was irresponsibly released by CBSSports.com. Facebook, Twitter and ultimately Black Shoe Diaries picked up on this story and perpetuated the bogus report.

CBS has released an on-line public apology.

correction

the initial report came from onwardstate.com, a PSU student-run site. CBS picked up on their initial, erroneous report which cascaded from there.
